Images in this gallery are landscapes, more specifically cityscapes from major cities, mostly in the US but few around the world.  The perspective I have chosen to capture these cities is different from the traditional cityscape perspective, where the artist captures the streets and blocks of city they see while standing on the ground.  My perspective is above the city, looking down at its roads, blocks and structures from sky.  The only change is the location of view point, subject remains same.

I have made an effort to keep all images to scale, retaining the underlying geometry of city roads and blocks.  The representations are made to look as an abstract image to a casual viewer or at least at first sight.  Yet there is enough evidence in the representation that someone who knows the city well, can recognize the city area depicted in the image.  Click on the image in galleries to see the part of city depicted in the representation.

San Francisco

I came to the Bay Area for my graduate studies and for next 15 years it was home.  Though all this time I was in the East Bay, San Francisco was just across the bridge for ‘big city’ activities.  Overtime, I became very familiar with its streets and neighborhoods, which I have tried to capture in this project.

New York

Unlike San Francisco, my familiarity with New York is limited to its airports and few business trips, so I had to depend on internet to familiarize myself with the city.  Most of the images are from Manhattan, with its rectangular grid defined by its streets and avenues, with the Central Park and of course the Times Square.

London

Over last several years, I got opportunity to visit London several times, for vacations and now more frequently for work.  My familiarity of the city is limited to central London, most of the images are of the areas in this part of the city, especially around Oxford Street where I usually end up spending most of my time in London.

Somewhere Over... – Collection from somewhere over...

These are images of other places, some with personal connection, other simply interesting subjects.

About This Gallery

This gallery contains outcome of a personal project I started few years ago as free time activity, mostly on weekends.  I am not an art professional and unfortunately with no formal training in visual arts, but I hope you will find these works, at least different and new and that is the intent of this website.

All images on this site are created digitally, with some background and fills painted in acrylic on canvas and digitally scanned.  The city geometry was created using publically available maps and satellite images including websites such as OpenStreetMaps, USGS, Google, Bing and Mapquest.
